Chemical leak from vehicle

CHENNAI : A vehicle carrying 15 barrels of a chemical used in the manufacture of perfume was involved in an accident near the Thousand Lights Mosque, where the content of the barrels spilled, causing irritation and nausea to passers-by.
The Tempo, registered for Prasad Organics Private Limited on the Old Mahabalipuram Road, was carrying chloro-acetate.
The incident happened at 1.15 p.m.
The Fire Service personnel arrived with breathing apparatus and controlled the situation by first using water to cool the spill and then clay to arrest the damage.
The situation was under control in an hour.
Police investigations are on.

CorporateMeghmani Organics plans Rs 503-cr chemical complex
CHENNAI: Meghmani Organics Ltd has informed the BSE that it plans to set up a caustic chlorine complex in Dahej under SPV Meghmani Finechem Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs 503.16 crore through a proposed funding comprising Rs 344.18 crore debt and Rs 158. 98 crore equity/quasi equity that will be partly made by the company and promoters and partly by private equity and strategic investors.
The complex, when completed, will be used for production of caustic soda lye/flakes, chlorine gas and hydrogen gas in the first phase.

I-T officials search 30 chemical units in Maharashtra, Gujarat

MUMBAI: Income Tax officials today searched premises of 30 chemical industrial units in Maharashtra and Gujarat for possible tax evasion.

"After gathering specific evidence regarding Income Tax evasion, we sent our officials to conduct search at premises of 30 chemical industrial units located in Maharashtra and Gujarat," Income Tax sources told PTI.

The search was conducted in units located between Mumbai and Thane in Maharashtra and Vapi, Ankaleshwar and Baroda in Gujarat.

"Our entire operation was focused mainly between Thane and Ahmedabad as bulk of country's chemical units are located in this region," the sources said.

Over 100 personnel have been deployed in the operation that are yet to return from the field.

"We don't have the exact number of people deployed but it should be anywhere between 120-150. Since, they are yet to return from the field, we cannot reveal the details of their findings today. It will take some time," the sources added.

India's L&T wins 60 mln usd chemical plants order from Saudi Arabia's Chemanol

MUMBAI, Oct. 10, 2007 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) -- India's Larsen & Toubro Ltd said it has won an order worth about 60 mln usd from Methanol Chemical Company (Chemanol) in Saudi Arabia, to set up high technology plants.

In a filing to the Bombay (OTCBB:BBAO) Stock Exchange, it said this engineering and procurement order involves setting up methyl amines and dimethyl formamide plants for which UK-based Davy Process Technology has provided the process technology.
